According to officials of the electoral board, the 12:00 local time report registered 4,736 ballots, that is, 21% of the 22,553 eligible voters to participate in the process.

For the entity, this is a significant upturn compared to 2020, when in the same period 4,175 citizens showed up to vote.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office is currently monitoring the day and the work in the 20 polling stations opened in Sint Maarten to avoid fraud, buying and selling of votes after warning that any illegal behavior will be investigated and punished to the full extent of the law.

So far, the elections are calm, the leaders of the eight competing parties have already cast their votes and their followers are allowed to continue with their proselytizing activities, but five meters away from each polling station.
