According to the Ministry of Commerce, the request submitted by China’s domestic industry on this issue meets the relevant requirements.
Shu Jueting, a spokeswoman for the agency, said the Chinese side alleged that the quantity of brandy products imported from the EU grew rapidly, while prices maintained a downward trend, causing difficulties for the domestic industry.
‘After receiving the application, the Ministry of Commerce reviewed the relevant documentation and evidence submitted by the applicant in accordance with the law.
We believe the application met the conditions for filing an anti-dumping investigation and we decided to launch it,’ the spokeswoman added.
The announcement comes at a time of trade tensions between the two sides, renewed after Beijing’s protest over a European Union anti-subsidy probe against electric vehicle manufacturers.
