According to Interior Minister Carolina Tohá, authorities have instructed border personnel to be on alert in case any of these groups or gang members try to enter Chilean territory.
On January 7, Adolfo Macias, leader of the Los Choneros criminal gang, escaped from the regional prison of Guayaquil.
Due to this event, a series of violent actions began in detention centers and on the streets of Ecuador.
Faced with this situation, the Chilean interior minister informed that the Investigation Police, the militarized national police known as Carabineros, and the Gendarmerie contacted their Ecuadorian counterparts to exchange information and offer assistance.
However, Tohá reiterated that Chile is not in the same situation as Ecuador, where there are 27 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 6.7 killings in this country.
