Uruguay watches over the prompt reestablishment of internal order within the strict framework of the current institutional framework that allows the recovery of citizen coexistence and the full restitution of individual rights and liberties, says the Foreign Ministry communiqué.
It adds that the Uruguayan embassy in Ecuador is closely following the development of the events and is alert and at the disposal of the Uruguayan nationals in that country.
The Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa, declared the existence of an internal armed conflict throughout the national territory and identified more than 20 organized crime groups as terrorists.
Noboa authorized the Armed Forces and the National Police to use heavy weapons against the criminals and to reestablish order in the streets and prisons of the country.
