The ceremony will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Newtown at 14:00 local time, but the entire day will be in mourning and the flag will be flown at half-mourning in state institutions.
However, between 09:00 and 12:00 on January 10, the President, the Prime Minister, other office bearers, authorities and politicians of the country will pay their respects to the late intellectual at the State Conference Center, followed by the public at the church from 13:00 to 13:45.
In addition, the event will be broadcasted live by all mass media in Dominica.
Carissa Faustina Etienne died on December 1, 2023 in a U.S. hospital at the age of 71, shortly after collapsing at home and needing resuscitation.
She held multiple positions in her native Dominica before leading entities in the Caribbean, the Americas and the World Health Organization.
Many governments, presidents and institutions of the continent mourned her passing away with great sorrow, and highlighted her career as a physician and her contributions while leading PAHO.
The Caribbean Public Health Agency emphasized that the expert contributed to transforming the health systems in the Americas and with her commitment she promoted, in particular, the development of projects to improve the quality of life and healthier habits of the population in her area.
