Based on a report from the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), the damage, which may be felt in the coming months, totaled 1 billion 883 million dollars.
The document credits this result to the lack of rainfall and other conditions that affect the “water status of the soils and vegetation,” and states that the development of some dryland crops and forage for animal feeding was rendered “impossible.”
The sector, which includes crops such as soybeans and corn, experienced total losses of 58.4 percent, with 2.5 million fewer tons collected, details the MGAP report.
The livestock sector suffered damages valued at 287 million dollars, with fewer calves born and a reduction in the overall labor.
The dairy industry suffered damages for 136 million dollars, while forestry recorded losses of 162 million dollars.
Horticulture and viticulture also suffered million-dollar losses, with lower yields, size and quality.
