Sabbagh expressed Syria’s position during his reception at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, accompanied by Major General Nirmal Thapa, commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) between Syria and Israel.
“There is an urgent need for the UN to take urgent measures to end the continuous Israeli violations in the Syrian Golan occupied since 1967, as well as to put an end to the repeated Israeli aggressions against Syrian sovereignty and its attacks on vital infrastructure and facilities,” the official said.
During the meeting, they discussed the work of the UNDOF in the separation region and the facilities provided by the Syrian government for this force to fulfill its mandate in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolution.
The Syrian diplomat demanded that the peacekeeping mission’s reports should include precise monitoring of the attacks and violations of Tel Aviv.
In turn, Lacroix stated that his visit intends to review the work of UNDOF, and stressed that the UN makes efforts to avoid any escalation in the region.
He expressed his gratitude for the facilities provided by the Syrian government for the UN force mission.
