Nationals living abroad, particularly in the United States, sent a total of 19,804 million dollars, 1,763.7 million more than the previous amount, according to the statistics released.
The months in which more family remittances were received were June, with 1,861.3 million dollars, followed by May, with 1,811.9 million dollars, the financial entity reported.
The foreign currency sent by Guatemalan migrants, estimated in more than three million people, represent 20 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of this Central American state.
Official data from the Bank of Guatemala show that for more than a decade, every year remittances received set new records.
These monetary resources from abroad are used for the survival of around six million of the 18 million inhabitants.
