The Caribbean nation has the opportunity to expand its representation in this year’s most awaited sporting event until the first week of July, when men’s basketball (m) will participate in Greece in one of the last tournaments that will give tickets to Paris 2024.
Next April, the only taekwondo qualifying event in the Americas will take place here and, according to Miguel Camacho, president of the Dominican Taekwondo Federation, the event will award places to the top two in each of the four categories in men’s and women’s taekwondo.
So far, 22 soccer players (m), 12 volleyball players (f), sprinters Marileidy Paulino and Alexander Ogando (the latter in the 100 and 200 meters), as well as gymnast Audrys Nin have qualified.
Likewise, Junior Alcántara (boxing) and Lozos, who will participate for the second time in the world event.
Dominican Republic participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with 65 athletes and won three silver medals and two bronze medals.
