On his X account, the head of State described the event as the most beautiful symbol of victory and a time of greatest joy for the Cuban people.

On January 8, 1959, “65 years of work and achievements began,” Díaz-Canel wrote on the social network.

The arrival in Havana of representatives of the new generations of Cubans, along with veteran Rebel Army combatants was recreated on Monday as the culmination of a tour that began in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba on January 1.

Like on that occasion, the convoy traveled through the territories of Bayamo, Las Tunas, Camagüey, Ciego de Avila, Santi Spíritus, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos and Matanzas, to Havana.

Participants in this year’s Caravan paid tribute to the heroes of that epic and reaffirmed the Cuban youths’ commitment to the continuity of the revolutionary process that has been driving the nation since then.

The historic event, which occurred a few days after the triumph of the guerrilla forces over the Fulgencio Batista tyranny (1952-1959), provided the first direct contact of the population with the uniformed revolutionaries and their leader.
