According to the Ministry of State Security, in 2015 the MI6 established an “intelligence cooperation relationship” with a citizen, whose surname is Huang, and who worked as the head of an overseas consulting firm.

The report did not reveal the nationality of the spy, but stated that he entered China on several occasions, collected sensitive information for the country and identified possible individuals for recruitment. “The MI6 also provided professional intelligence training to Huang in several locations, including the United Kingdom, and equipped him with specialized spy devices for intelligence sharing and communication,” the report said.

According to the statement, this person provided the British secret service with 14 pieces of classified information and three intelligence reports.

The national security authority added that legal measures were taken against Huang following the investigation.

Relations between China and the United Kingdom are going through a time of renewed tensions due to British interference in internal affairs such as the issue of governance in Hong Kong.

Furthermore, last September the Chinese Foreign Ministry rejected accusations of alleged espionage by Beijing in the United Kingdom and stressed that this theory was unfounded.

China urged the British government to properly handle their disagreements, respect each other’s core interests and take into account each other’s major concerns.
