Argentine lawmakers to debate package of laws

Buenos Aires, Jan 8 (Prensa Latina) Argentine lawmakers will debate a package of laws on Tuesday that establishes the economic, pension, security, defense, tariff, energy, health, administrative, and social emergency until December 31, 2025, official sources confirmed on Monday.

According to the Chamber of Deputies’ agenda, about 100 lawmakers will attend a joint meeting of the General Legislation, Constitutional Affairs, and Budget and Finance Committees at 14:00 hours, local time.

Another informative meeting will take place on Wednesday.

At a press release, lawmakers from the Union for the Homeland Coalition (UP) demanded the presence of all nine ministers from the Government of Liberty Advances coalition (LLA) in the debates, and criticized the possible virtual participation of officials.

The package of laws consists of more than 880 articles with more than 25 areas of analysis. Arbitrarily, three commissions were turned over in the Chamber of Deputies.

We call on all members to participate in the commissions in person. There are no excuses, the text adds.

Called “Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines,” the project stated that the Executive Branch can extend the emergency for a maximum of two years. It provides for the privatization of state-owned companies and corporations.

Among these firms are Aerolíneas Argentinas, Water and Sanitation, the Bank of the Nation, Casa de Moneda, Correo Oficial, Air Navigation Enterprise, Energy Company, Railways, Radio and Television, Télam News Agency, and Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF).
