Violence increases in Ecuador

Quito, Jan 7 (Prensa Latina) Violence continues to increase today in Ecuador despite the promises of President Daniel Noboa's campaign to stop this situation through the so-called Phoenix Plan.

In the last hours violent events have shaken the residents of the provinces of the coastal region, where the criminal gangs that operate in Ecuador are concentrated and are fighting for the control of drug trafficking, according to data from the National Police.

This Saturday, in the city of Guayaquil, in the province of Guayas, extortionists set fire to a bus, although no injuries were reported after the incident.

Local media reported that several bus drivers in that locality have been threatened by extortionists.

Later, in the city of Durán, in the same jurisdiction, a new massacre was reported. There, three women and a man were killed, while a baby was wounded with a firearm, according to a report by Ecuavisa channel.

This Friday, the industrial sector of Durán requested support from the National Government to stop the insecurity crisis in that city.
