This took place in a rural area of difficult access and where there is little radar coverage over the airspace, northwest of the capital.
Police arrested four people involved, who were posing as beekeepers and moving in small trucks loaded with bee crates.
According to press reports, the aircraft dumped the drugs and flew on to Argentina. Within 15 minutes it was no longer in Uruguayan airspace.
Authorities presume that the aircraft is of Bolivian origin and was refueled on Argentine soil.
