“Happy to be back in Lebanon to prove my support amid these difficult times,” Borrell posted on X.
In this regard, Borrel reaffirmed that avoid regional escalation and to advance in diplomatic efforts with a view to creating conditions to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israel, Palestine and in the region is top priority.
In his first visit, Borrell reaffirmed the EU’s strong support for the UN Interim Force (UNIFIL) which plays a pivotal role in preventing and mitigating an escalation in the region.
According to the press release, UNIFIL Mission´s Commander and Head, Lieutenant Gen. Aroldo Lazaro, updated on current hostility and risks along the Lebanon-Israel border area.
As previously reported by the EU delegation in Beirut, Borrell will also hold meetings with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib and Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun.
