DRC has been reporting an exceptional rise in floods and landslides by generating a humanitarian crisis and new epidemics.
An emergency meeting of secretaries and directors, as well as experts from the Ministries of Interior and Security; Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, and Agriculture, was held on Friday in order to analyze the situation in DRC, step up actions and make decisions, as reported by the Congolese Press Agency.
At the meeting, the Minister of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity Modeste Mutinga said that as many as 43,750 houses have collapsed to date, in addition to 1,325 schools, 269 health centers, 41 public markets and 85 devastated roads.
Mutinga offered his deepest condolences to affected families.
Different provinces including Tshopo, Mongala, Ubangi South and North; Kwilu, Mayi-Ndombe, Kongo Central, Lomami, Kasaï-central, South Kivu and Tshuapa were among the most affected ones, while measures are being taken to protect people at risk.
Damaged territories sent requests to central government agencies to acquire resources for emergency humanitarian assistance, which will enable them to deploy rescue teams and provide comprehensive health care to communities.
