Industrial sector in Ecuadorian city asks for government support

Quito, Jan 5 (Prensa Latina) The industrial sector of the city of Durán, in the Ecuadorian province of Guayas, today requested support from the National Government to stop insecurity crisis in that city.

The Chamber of Industries of that territory, considered one of the most violent in this South American nation, asked President Daniel Noboa to address critical security and service problems that threaten investments, jobs and growth, in addition to questioning the continuity of companies in the canton.

In a letter sent to the president, the industrial union requested a meeting to address the serious problems of insecurity, as well as the lack of water supply for the industrial sector and the poor condition of the roads and public lighting.

Likewise, they denounced that, despite Durán being the fifth largest economy in the country and the third canton with the most industrial production, the union faces challenges that threaten its projected growth of 15 percent annually.

Ecuador is going through the greatest insecurity crisis in its history, where murders, kidnappings, extortions, prison riots and assaults are increasingly frequent.

Recently, the Global Report Against Transnational Organized Crime placed the Andean country among the countries with the highest crime rate in the world, while the Government here attributes the insecurity crisis to drug trafficking and disputes between criminal gangs for the control of drug trafficking.
