The PNR was founded from the very heart of the Rebel Army on January 5, 1959, at the initiative of then Commander Raúl Castro, chief of the Second Frank País García Eastern Front.
Furthermore, its creation was aimed at having an exemplary institution that would erase from the memory of Cubans the image of repression, abuses and corruption that characterized that corps during the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958).
Today, its fundamental mission focuses on the preservation of public order, public tranquility and road safety.
The PNR performs various tasks, all with a high level of commitment and responsibility. Thus, it contributes to fighting crime and fires, safeguarding natural resources, caring for minors with negative behaviors, and the security and physical protection of the state facilities and institutions, among others.
