Prime Minister reaffirms condemnation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon

Beirut, Jan 4 (Prensa Latina) The interim Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, condemned again today the Israeli attacks against his nation.

Receiving the commander of the United Nations Interim Force (Unifil), Aroldo Lazaro, at the government palace, the Lebanese Prime Minister rejected the continuous Israeli violations to the national sovereignty.

At the United Nations Mikati called to denounce the transgressions of the Tel Aviv forces to the Blue Line and Resolution 1701, adopted by the Security Council on August 11, 2006.

At the same time, the cabinet chief endorsed Lebanon’s continued commitment to UN regulations and their provisions.

On March 19, 1978, the UN Security Council adopted resolutions 425 and 426, calling on Israel to immediately end its military action and withdraw its forces from the Lebanese territory.

It also decided on the establishment of Unifil for three purposes: to confirm the withdrawal of the Israeli army, to restore international peace and security, and to support the Lebanese government in returning its effective authority in the area.

The mission’s first troops arrived on March 23, 1978 and currently comprises around 10,500 blue helmets from 48 countries.

Experts say that, so far, Israel has violated international resolutions demanding the immediate withdrawal of its forces from Lebanese territory and the cessation of any military operation against the Levantine nation.

At the same time, the Tel Aviv government ignored Security Council regulations.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry will file a complaint with the UN Security Council due to the constant Israeli attacks and violations, most recently Tuesday’s bombing in the southern suburb of the capital.
