From October 2023 until now, the number of refugees deported by Pakistan has reached 400,000, the Afghan spokesman told a press conference, although figures released last Tuesday by Pakistan exceed that number.
The Pakistani Interior Ministry informed the Pakistani Senate that more than half a million undocumented immigrants have been deported so far under the interim government’s policy against undocumented refugees.
About 1.7 million foreigners are living illegally in the country, most of whom are Afghans. Approximately 541,210 people have been returned following the Cabinet’s approval of the plan to deport illegal residents, the Ministry detailed, adding that about 1.15 million still reside in Pakistan.
As winter sets in, refugees returning to Afghanistan face serious economic, health and food challenges.
