The 8.9 million visits last year represented a significant advance over 2022, when 7.8 million visitors were recorded, and “is approaching the pre-pandemic level of 2019 (9.6 million visitors),” the museum’s management said.
It also recalled that the influx figures were lower than in the past (in 2018 it received 10.2 million visitors) as it was decided to maintain a maximum daily capacity of 30 thousand people to ensure “a better reception in visiting conditions” for the public, and clarified that this limit will be maintained even “during the Olympic Games (from July 26 to August 11).”
According to the origin of the visitors, one third of them came from France, and among foreigners, the largest number came from the United States (13%), followed by Italy (7%), the United Kingdom and Germany (5%) and Spain (4%).
Asian visitors (Japan, Korea, China), meanwhile, accounted for only 2,5% of the audience, while in 2018, Chinese visitors alone accounted for 8% of attendance.
This very low level of inflow during the past year was explained by a “very gradual resumption of air connections” with China, as well as by “difficulties in the issuance of visas”.
