Based on Xinhua news agency, it is a project in the autonomous region of Xizang, southwest, which has 25 wind turbines capable of providing approximately 200 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year.
According to CHN Energy Investment Group, this saves about 60,000 tons of standard coal and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 160,000 tons.
The project, built at an average altitude of 4,650 meters above sea level, was completed in about 260 days with an investment of 640 million yuan (about US$90.36 million).
In CHN Energy Investment’s view, the operation of the farm will play a crucial role in demonstrating and promoting research, development and application of high-altitude wind turbines.
Energy transition is one of China’s goals on its path to green development and carbon neutrality.
China installed 172 million kilowatts of renewable energy capacity in the first nine months of 2023, a record compared to previous years, official sources reported.
According to the National Energy Administration, this figure represents an increase of 93 percent over the same period in 2022, which moves the country’s comittment to a new record level for renewable energy capacity.
Overall, the Asian nation has managed to develop a renewable electricity generation capacity of 1.38 billion kilowatts, accounting for 49.6 percent of its total installed electricity generation capacity.
