In response to a question from Prensa Latina, China´s Foreign Ministry stated Cuba has been so far capable of overcoming difficulties, worked hard and actively explored development paths adjusted to its own national conditions.
“Cuba has resolutely faced foreign interference and blockade, making continuous new development achievements, and China congratulates these achievements,” Foreign Ministry stressed.
The Foreign Ministry reiterated that both nations “are good friends, good partners and good brothers, with common ideals and beliefs that keep us closely united.”
It also pointed out the willingness to work together with Havana “to continuously strengthen political trust, expand pragmatic cooperation, promote continuous development of Sino-Cuban relations and also build together a China-Cuba community of destiny”.
The two countries boosted their economic-commercial relations, strengthened mutual political trust with high-level meetings and inked several agreements during a fruitful year for their bilateral ties.
In 2023, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping held talks in the context of the 15th BRICS Summit and reaffirmed the excellent state of their bilateral relations.
This meeting took place less than a year after the visit paid by the Cuban leader to China during which both nations managed to reach significant agreements for bilateral cooperation in a new era.
The agreements signed in 2023 covered different sectors of cooperation including transportation, biotechnology, agri-food, renewable energy, tourism, info-communications, sugar industry, trade and digital television.
In a recent meeting with Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero in this capital, President Xi Jinping referred to the two countries as “good friends, good partners and good brothers”.
