Bolivia reports 147 deaths during New Year’s holidays

La Paz, Jan 2 (Prensa Latina) The General Commander of Bolivian Police, Alvaro Alvarez, on Tuesday said that 147 people died during the New Year's holidays, while the armed forces reported as many as 1,500 traffic crashes.

Alvarez said in statements to local press that “regarding traffic incidents, we have had a significant surge in relation to assistance services, accidents, misdemeanors and death of people (…)” because of different causes”.

The general added that as many as 15,780 police officers were deployed nationwide. It meant 79% more than at the end of 2022.

“Police personnel has been deployed in all areas -described Alvarez-, roads, capital cities, intermediate cities, border, in order to give security to all Bolivians who celebrated the New Year’s holidays”.

According to the police chief, the massive control of this body in the streets helped to identify a greater number of offenders.
