Anti-doping policy in El Salvador helps reduce deaths

San Salvador, Dec 30 (Prensa Latina) The installation of fences in different areas of the country, including the capital, helped reduce the number of deaths in road accidents related to drunk drivers, authorities reported today.

This policy applied in three anti-doping fences installed in Santa Ana, San Miguel and the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador led the authorities of the Vice Ministry of Transportation (VMT) and the Traffic Division of the National Civil Police (PNC) to arrest 21 drunk drivers.

Until now, we have arrested 13 people for having more than 100 mg/dl of alcohol in exhaled air. The arrests are for the crime of dangerous driving, stated the general director of Land Transportation, Ismael Flores.

He specified that from January 1 to date “46,123 breathanalyzer checks have been carried out, almost triple those carried out last year (2022). This is reflected in 27.4 percent increase in the number of dangerous drivers detained with respect to 2022.”

Between Friday night and this Saturday morning, the VMT claims to have carried out 1,477 tests to detect alcohol consumption, which allowed the arrest of 21 dangerous drivers nationwide and 37 were sanctioned for having values between 50 mg/dl. and 99 mg/dl of alcohol in exhaled air”.

These controls help reduce road accident indicators, such is the case that we have a seven percent reduction in deaths from road accidents and this weekend the checks will increase, Flores stated.
