Trump, advertising and the press in the US

Donald Trump
Washington, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) If the media in the United States studied the time dedicated to former President Donald Trump in the news today, perhaps they could determine that, for one reason or another, they gave him a good amount of publicity.

Although they speak badly, but speak, it works as a marketing strategy, because the former president (2017-2021) has been the only one who, after leaving office, remained regularly on the TV screen and newspapers.

From controversies with former collaborators, false claims about the 2020 electoral process that he continues to insist was fraudulent, lawsuits for sexual assault and sustained fraud, federal and state accusations that totaled 91 in six months, four pending trials, including for trying to reverse the results of elections three years ago.

Investigations into his possible instigation of the hundreds of followers who stormed the federal Capitol on January 6, 2021; published books that disqualify him; challenges so that he cannot appear on the primary ballots of states in the country, the list is simply endless.

However, Trump – the first former president to be accused and booked by police in the history of the United States -continues his electoral campaign ahead of the 2024 elections, in which his rhetoric intensifies, especially against immigrants and those who, he says, they are your adversaries.

The most interesting -and sometimes inexplicable- thing is that, despite the regrets, Trump is the favorite candidate for the Republican nomination, according to polls, and who are his closest rivals (former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida) are with double-digit scores behind him.

Recently, a local media outlet said that what the police photo of the former governor taken in a Georgia prison did was give him publicity and money, since it never occurred to him to sell small pieces of the suit and tie he was wearing when he posed for the photograph of his booking at Fulton Prison at the end of August.

Fully entering the 2024 electoral cycle, there are analysts who do not rule out the return of the New York magnate to the position in the Oval Office starting in January 2025. In fact, among speculation and comments, they published the composition of a hypothetical government team.

By the way, in 2018 Trump called the media “enemies of the people” and at least 100 American newspapers and magazines decided to publish different editorials to disarm the then president’s hostile rhetoric against the media.
