At the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed to the Russian president a cordial greeting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and delivered a personal message from the Indian dignitary.
He also informed Putin about the conversations with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, which he considered important for their orientation towards the future development of ties between both nations.
On Wednesday, Jaishankar and Lavrov signed the protocol of bilateral consultations for the 2024-2028 period after a meeting described by the Indian Foreign Minister as extensive and useful.
Both ministers addressed issues such as progress in economic cooperation, energy trade, connectivity efforts, military-technical collaboration and people-to-people exchanges.
“As strategic partners, we discussed the international situation and contemporary issues and exchanged views related to the Indo-Pacific region, the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, Afghanistan and Central Asia”, Jaishankar posted on X. “We analyzed the political links around the BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Group of 20 (G20) and the UN.”
The Indian Foreign Minister also confirmed that relations between India and Russia reflect geopolitical realities, strategic convergence and mutual benefit, and affirmed that trade between India and Russia exceeds 50 billion dollars and has prospects for exceeding those levels.
After thanking the warm reception he received from the Russian authorities, Jaishankar celebrated the course of ties between both countries, which, he said, are solid, stable, and live up to the responsibilities of a special and privileged strategic partnership.
