Heavy rains have been falling in the territory since Monday, causing flooding that stopped early in the afternoon.
The city council reported the death of a dozen people, but other sources say that 22 corpses have been found so far, Radio Okapi added.
The landslides swept away several houses in almost all neighborhoods of the city, while a temple belonging to the Cité Bethel church, on Kasa-Vubu avenue in Kananga commune, was also affected by the erosion.
The damage is enormous, according to Mayor Rose Musube, who asked the central government for assistance to help the affected families, especially to bury the deceased with dignity.
