“Our people have never witnessed a war like this, not even during the Nakba (catastrophe, in Arabic) of 1948,” the president stressed, referring to the creation of the State of Israel and the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
In an interview with the Egyptian television station ON, the ruler questioned Washington’s vetoes of several UN Security Council resolutions to end the conflict.
“Every time the world, the Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly seek to stop this war, the United States responds with a veto, refusing to stop the fight,” he stressed.
With just one signal from the White House, Israel will stop its aggression, the president assured.
Abbas highlighted that over 20,000 Palestinians were killed and another 60,000 were injured in the Israeli attacks, which began on October 7th, and warned that Israel seeks to expel the population from the Strip and the West Bank with the aim of eliminating the Palestinian cause. “They are working to push the inhabitants of the coastal enclave towards the Sinai Peninsula,” he said, and thanked the Egyptian authorities for flatly rejecting that strategy.
Abbas confirmed that the Government of Palestine is ready to resume peace talks, based on the relevant Security Council resolutions, which demand the establishment of a Palestinian State that includes Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. “However, we doubt Israel is willing to return to the negotiating table,” he said.
