In a statement, France´s Foreign Ministry expressed its deepest concern over Israel’s announcement that it will extend and intensify its military operations in Gaza, where over 20,000 civilians are being reported dead, many of them children.
Israel´s systematic bombings have already left numerous civilian victims in recent days, warned Paris while reiterating its call for an immediate truce leading to a cease-fire.
According to the text, the framework of international humanitarian law imposes the clear principles of distinction, necessity, proportionality and precaution, Israel must adhere to.
Since October 7, Gaza has been facing bombings and a harsh blockade, to which was added a land aggression, in retaliation for the Hamas attack on Israel, which left 1,200 dead.
France supported the UNSC adoption on December 22 of resolution 2720, an initiative which establishes the urgent arrival of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
