The FDA is an armed group made up of Ugandans who, since 2015, have become radicalized after the arrest of their leader Jamil Mukulu.
In 2019 FDA split into two fractions one of which remains loyal to former leader Musa Mukulu and the other joined Islamic State-Central Africa Province under the leadership of Baluku.
The operation took place in the same area where the FDA killed and burned 10 villagers a week ago.
This is the third FDA raid in Uganda since past June, the deadliest one, when 42 civilians were assassinated, 37 of them students of a secondary school in Lhubirira, Mpondwe area, about 2km off the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Past October two tourists, a British and a South African honeymooners as well as their Ugandan tourist guide, were killed at the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Alleged killers were later shot dead by the army as they tried to enter DRC territory.
