Djibouti welcomes UN resolution on Palestine, but asks for more

Djibouti, Dec 25 (Prensa Latina) Although grateful for the United Nations Security Council's resolution to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Djibouti stated on Monday that it is insufficient, due to the absence of demands for an immediate ceasefire.

According to an article published in the La Nation newspaper, the African country highlighted the importance of this document to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe under the occupation, but it does not stop the bloodshed in Gaza.

The text reiterated the call “to end the brutal aggression, crimes of genocide, destruction and displacement suffered by the brother Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, under the occupation of Israeli forces.”

Once again, Djibouti called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in the implementation of all its resolutions related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, the article noted.

This aims to achieve just and comprehensive peace, based on the two-State solution and considered the only way to resolve the Palestinian issue, as well as ending Israel’s illegal occupation and establishing lasting stability in the Middle East, the publication added.

On December 22, the UN Security Council approved the negotiated resolution on Gaza that calls for “creating the conditions for a sustainable end of hostilities,” as well as the arrival of more humanitarian assistance.

With 13 votes in favor and two abstentions (Russia and the United States), the instrument demands the immediate, safe and unhindered delivery of aid to civilians in Gaza and the urgent release of hostages.

In addition, it calls for compliance with the obligations for the conduct of hostilities and the protection of the population and their property, humanitarian access, as well as humanitarian personnel and their freedom of movement.

The text insists that medical personnel and their means of transportation must be respected and protected, in accordance with international regulations, and affirms that nothing in the resolution absolves the parties of these obligations.

Since October 7, the war launched by Israel against the Gaza Strip has killed more than 20,000 and injured 52,000 Palestinians.
