According to Mi Feng, spokesperson for the National Health Commission, China registered a 8.2% falling-off in outpatient and emergency treatment rates compared to December 15. So, it accounts for a 30% decrease since the beginning of the winter season, when China reported an outbreak of respiratory illnesses.
“The number of diagnoses and treatments at basic health institutions has also remained relatively stable,” added Fu Wei.
Peng Zhibin, from the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), attributed the recent surge in respiratory diseases to the influenza virus, even though China warned about the spread of other known pathogens.
He also stressed that the reported incidence of the new coronavirus reached extremely low levels in 2023.
The National Health Commission recently assured that clinics at the primary level responded effectively to the medical needs of patients.
China faced an outbreak of these pathologies that led the highest health authority to increase the capacity of medical services.
Facing up a fresh wave of children infected, community health centers extended their opening hours or establish additional weekend care periods depending on their capacity.
Plus, the National Health Commission assigned experienced medical professionals to base facilities to provide pediatric services and train staff in key skills.
