So far, only one case has been confirmed, a 54-year-old patient, resident of the Aserrí canton, in San José, who had no travel history nor did he were hospitalized.
INCIENSA´s report listed the symptoms the patient had: Headache, myalgia or muscle pain, fever, rhinorrhea cough or congestion and odynophagia.
It was informed that the World Health Organization (WHO) added the new JN.1 subvariant to its list of variants of concern and cleared up that the risk of this new strain to global public health is too low.
Based on available evidence, the additional risk to global public health posed by JN.1 is currently considered low.
However, with the onset of winter in the northern hemisphere, JN.1 could increase the burden of respiratory infections in many countries, WHO explained.
