During the event held in the Higüey municipality, La Altagracia province, Abinader accepted the candidacy of this party for the second time and said he was confident that with the support of the PLR they will surpass the percentage of votes obtained by the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party in the elections of 2020.
More than 20 political organizations have proclaimed the dignitary as their candidate for the presidency of the Republic for the May 19 elections.
That day the Dominicans will elect the president and vice president, senators, deputies (including those from overseas) and the Central American Parliament and alternates. In total there will be 264 posts at stake.
In the case of the presidency, if none of the candidates obtains 50 plus one percent of the votes, a second round will follow on June 30.
In the 2024 elections, 8,118,214 people will be eligible to vote, of which 51.28 percent are women and 48.72 percent are men.
Until last November, the Opposition Alliance ¨Rescate RD¨, made up of the Dominican Liberation Party, the People’s Force and the Dominican Revolutionary, announced agreements at the municipal level in 145 municipalities, including the National District, and 215 municipal district board addresses.
