In a press release, the Foreign Ministry indicates that the resolution is entitled Addressing the links between corruption and organized crime, and also co-sponsored the one presented by Ghana, Addressing gender inequalities in the fight against corruption.
During the 10th United Nations Conference of States Parties against Corruption (better known as the Merida Convention) in Atlanta, Georgia, Mexico stated that multilateralism and international cooperation are solid pillars for addressing and finding solutions to global problems such as corruption and related crimes.
The countries participating in the Conference approved the Atlanta Declaration, which commits states and societies to ‘promoting integrity, accountability and transparency in the fight against corruption’.
In addition, the aforementioned resolution presented by Mexico and Italy was approved by consensus, an initiative that seeks to raise awareness of the need to consider the link between corruption and organized crime, and to create a bridge between the respective regimes established with the entry into force of the Merida Convention and the Palermo Convention.
