Diplomat Saab describes his release as a victory of love

Caracas, Dec 21 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan diplomat Aleex Saab said on Thursday, “this is a victory of love,” referring to his release on Wednesday from a U.S. prison after three and a half years of confinement.

In statements to the press from the Federal Legislative Palace, the official thanked the head of this body, Jorge Rodriguez, authorities and colleagues of the dialogue table and all those who in one way or another were involved in “bringing me back home.”

Saab explained he was kidnapped, tortured, isolated, slandered, defamed, and after 1,286 days “they could not prove” a single crime, they could not present a single piece of evidence, “neither against me nor against Venezuela.”

The diplomat described this moment as historical, in which Caracas once again imposed as the only way and with the steady conviction of President Nicolas Maduro, that “dialogue bears greater fruits than hatred.”

The authority expressed that the obsession for the sanctions promoted in the last years only served to enrich some “useless ex-political ghosts,” who fed and enriched themselves with the suffering of the Venezuelan people.

Saab was grateful to U.S. President Joe Biden for “following the path of mutual respect,” peace and understanding, and asserted that it takes courage, character and vision to “move away from failed policies.”

He expressed that Venezuela is a great country that adopted him as a son and where his children are growing up, it is a nation that “I love infinitely and I am infinitely grateful today, tomorrow and forever.”
