It stems from the recognition that the burden of the Covid-19 pandemic fell most heavily on developing countries, especially women and children, and led to the reversal of health breakthroughs, including maternal mortality.
The HeDPAC will focus on strengthening the health workforce in the two regions and sharing innovative solutions in primary health care, with special emphasis on climate resilience and maternal and child health.
Meanwhile, the Partnership’s core strategies will be to boost technology transfer for pharmaceutical manufacturing, develop regulatory capacity and improve universal health coverage.
“Covid-19 exposed the weaknesses of our healthcare systems, but we also have the opportunity to address those challenges,” Rwandan President Paul Kagame, a supporter of the initiative, concluded.
