Nicaragua and China highlight the development of bilateral relations

Managua, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The presidents of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, and of China, Xi Jinping, highlighted the development of bilateral ties two years after the reestablishment of diplomatic relations.

Both leaders held a telephone conversation on Tuesday in which they exchanged in-depth opinions on regional and international issues of common interest.

According to a joint statement following the dialogue, the heads of state recognized the positive advances in areas such as political mutual trust, practical and supportive cooperation in various areas, as well as collaboration in multilateral forums. They also agreed to up-lift binational relations to the level of Strategic Partnership, as it corresponds to the common interests of both countries and their peoples and favors the common development and prosperity of both countries, reassuring mutual support on issues related to vital interests and fundamental concerns.

Ortega expressed Nicaragua’s firm attachment to the one-China principle, and reiterated that the Government of China is the only legitimate Government, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. “The Nicaraguan side resolutely opposes Taiwan independence in all its manifestations, and reaffirms its commitment to abstain from having any type of official contact with Taiwan and its firm support for all the efforts of the Chinese Government to materialize the reunification of the country,” he stressed.

The President of Nicaragua expressed his strong support for China’s position on issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet.

In turn, Xi Jinping expressed his back-up for the Nicaraguan people to choose in sovereignty the development path in accordance with their own national conditions, and defend their independence, self-determination and security.

He also supported Nicaragua in safely promoting the advancement of its national political agendas, and categorically rejected foreign interference in its internal affairs, and highlighted Nicaragua’s successes under the leadership of President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo. “Nicaragua will obtain new achievements in national construction and the Nicaraguan people will have a better life. The Chinese side will continue to provide support and assistance within its scope for its economic and social development,” the President emphasized.
