Hungary rejected European migration pact

Budapest, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Hungary today transmitted its rejection of the Migration and Assylum Pact, agreed this Tuesday by the negotiators of the European Parliament and the Council.

Likewise, it warned that they will not accept impositions from Brussels to facilitate the entry of migrants into Hungarian territory or establish alternative measures.

In statements to the media, the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, reiterated his country’s disagreement with the punishment imposed for those who refuse the entry of migrants, defined as 20 thousand euros per person denied.

The agreement will be binding on member states, including Poland and Hungary, which during the negotiations voted against the position agreed upon by the Council.

According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the pact will limit irregular immigration and ease the burden on especially affected countries, including his own.
