The demonstration coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the social outbreak of 2001 that led to the resignation of the then-president Fernando de la Rúa, and which, among one of its objectives is: the condemnation of “the adjustment and misery plan of Milei and the International Monetary Fund and for the defense and the rights to protest.”
Inside the groups that will participate are: the Polo Obrero, the Left Front, Patria Grande, the Communist Party, the Railway Union, the Memory, Truth and Justice Meeting, the Peace and Justice Service, and the Teachers’ Union Association.
Former presidential candidates Myriam Bregman and Juan Grabois, the representative of Madres de Plaza de Mayo-Línea Fundadora, Nora Cortiñas, and union leaders confirmed their presence.
Last week, the Minister of Economy Luis Caputo announced the elimination of subsidies, the devaluation of the Argentinian peso, the end of public works, the reduction of ministries, layoffs in the state sector and the minimum reduction of transfers to the provinces, among other measures.
The Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich reported that the Gendarmerie, the Naval Prefecture, the Airport and Federal Security Police, as well as the penitentiary system, will intervene in pickets and partial or total blockades of roads or public places. “If they take the streets, there will be consequences. Action will be taken until the area is completely freed with the minimum necessary and sufficient force to be used.
It will be graduated in proportion to the resistance offered, she said, and stated that “the perpetrators, accomplices and instigators of this type of crime”, will be identified, as will be the vehicles used, which will be seized if they do not comply with traffic regulations and if their drivers do not have the required documents.
“Those who bring children (to the demonstrations) will be sanctioned and the competent authorities will be notified. For all the costs of the security operations, bills will be sent to the organizations and to individuals responsible. The State will not pay for the use of forces”, she added.
The Minister of Human Capital Sandra Pettovello asserted that all those who promote, instigate, organize or participate in the demonstrations will lose contact with the Ministry, and will be unable to access social plans.
