The US Defense and Security Cooperation Agency recently announced a $300 million sale of war matériel to Taiwan.
Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian stressed that these actions violate the One China principle and the three joint communiqués between the two countries. “This arms sale seriously undermines China’s sovereign security, seriously threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and sends the wrong signal to separatist forces,” he stressed.
The spokesman also urged Washington not to provide weapons to Taiwan, fulfill its commitment with concrete actions, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and abandon that “wrong and dangerous” path. “Using Taiwan to contain China is doomed to failure, and seeking independence by relying on weapons is doomed to death,” he emphasized.
Wu warned that “the People’s Liberation Army will strengthen military training and combat readiness, resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and firmly safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”
“No matter how many weapons the United States provides to the Taiwan region, the historical course of China’s reunification is inevitable,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized on Monday.
