China highlights traditional friendship with DPRK

Beijing, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underlined the traditional friendship with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) during a meeting with its Deputy Foreign Minister Pak Myong Ho.

The Korean authority visited Beijing to hold diplomatic consultations between the two countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Wang Yi emphasized that the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK was created and nurtured by the older-generation leaders of the two countries, and is a precious common asset of both sides.

Regarding the meeting, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, reassured the support and trust between the two nations facing the turbulent international situation, “which demonstrates the strategic importance of bilateral relations and cooperation.” He added that for Beijing, ties with the DPRK are strategic and of long-term, that is why he called for the deepening of exchanges in various fields.

Pak Myong Ho said that the unwavering position of the DPRK Party and Government is to further deepen and develop their ties with China in order to safeguard common interests, regional peace and stability.

At another point, the foreign ministry spokesman reiterated the call for dialogue and consultation to address the Korean peninsula issue. “Trying to solve the problem through military force and pressure will not work and will only be counterproductive, further intensify contradictions and aggravate tensions,” he stressed.
