“The community expects, and they have told us so, that we go not only for the small fish, no matter how dangerous they are in the community environment, but that we also go for the big fish,” Valencia said.
The head of the Public Ministry, together with the undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, and the general director of the Investigative Police (PDI), Sergio Muñoz, offered details of the so-called Operation Tributes that allowed the arrest of 55 businessmen involved in these illicit acts.
The defendants were linked to seven clans that, through paper companies and more than 100,000 false invoices, managed to cause damage to state coffers of approximately 240 billion pesos (276 million dollars).
Valencia stated that those involved in the network, in addition to going to jail, will have the assets acquired with that money seized.
