Strengthening management of public health systems in the Caribbean

medico
Port of Spain, Dec 17 (Prensa Latina) Strengthening the management of public health and disease surveillance systems in the Caribbean is the objective of a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding, according to officials from the signatory organizations.

The agreement was reached between the Caribbean Public Health Agency (Carpha in English) with the HISP Center of the Norwegian University of Oslo, which will carry out joint efforts over the next five years in the development of national and regional DHIS2 capacities, an open source web platform used as a health management information system.

Dr. Joy Saint John, executive director of the first of these entities, considered the agreement establishes a collaboration framework that encourages the exchange of knowledge and research synergy between her organization and academic experts.

“This partnership can significantly improve the use of DHIS2 in public health surveillance, leveraging the University’s expertise to advance our mission to foster healthy people, healthy spaces and a healthy Caribbean through robust data-driven initiatives,” expressed Professor Kristin Braa, director of the HISP Center, who also praised the signing of the memorandum.

“We are very excited to embark on this collaboration¨. “We see many opportunities and possibilities to work together to help strengthen public health systems in the Caribbean with DHIS2.”

Carpha and the University of Oslo will collaborate to develop and implement comprehensive capacity development programs aimed at strengthening the skills and knowledge of public health professionals.

Additionally, workshops, improvement sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives will be designed to address the changing needs of the sector.
