Authorities pointed out that the water treatment plant, built in an infrastructure of the former “Combinado de Papeles Blancos” enterprise, was designed to supply water regularly optimum quality 24 hours a day, and its official inauguration is scheduled for this month.
The aqueduct, with a capacity to pump 360 liters per second, will supply 100 liters per second in its first phase to the population of Jatibonico, and later it will benefit Taguasco and other towns.
The investment included the installation of 85 kilometers of networks at a cost of some 14 million pesos in Cuban pesos and US dollars.
The aqueduct is part of a project designed by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, with support from the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID).
The donation included the installation of a water network from the plant to the community of La Yaya to supply water to some 3,000 clients who lacked the service.
Experts from the Hydraulic Engineering Services estimate that this is one of the actions with the biggest socioeconomic impact in the last two decades in Sancti Spiritus and especially in Jatibonico.
The aqueduct is equipped with cutting-edge technology and a secure water source with the capacity to increase pumping to 60,000 liters per second in order to expand the system to other towns and rural areas in the territory.
