On the sidelines of their participation in the second World Refugee Forum in Geneva, both parties exchanged opinions on the situation in the region after more than 60 days of Israeli hostility, the Lebanese cabinet reported on social networks.
During the meeting, Abdollahian declared that the Tel Aviv regime cannot continue the war even for an hour without the support of the United States, and stressed that the Hizbullah resistance constitutes a brave and serious defender of the people of the Gaza Strip and a guarantor of Lebanon’s security and stability.
Mikati previously called for stopping the systematic killing and destruction in Gaza, and greeted the 153 countries that supported the resolution issued by the United Nations General Assembly to protect civilians and end Israeli military operations.
During his speech yesterday at the Forum, the Lebanese Minister reiterated Lebanon’s support to the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination, and urged the international community to take immediate measures to stop the violence, ensure the protection of civilians and work to achieve a fair and lasting solution that respects their rights and hopes.
Lebanon, which has hosted thousands of Palestinians since the beginning of their ordeal of displacement 75 years ago, has paid high prices in defense of their cause, and calls for resolving this conflict as the key to settle all crises in the region, Mikati said. The head of the Lebanese government renewed the demand for an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression against towns in the south of the country, which caused the death of hundreds of martyrs and injuries, with negative repercussions on the national economy, affected by the pressure of millions of Syrian and Palestinian refugees.
