As reported, the plant is located on Ometepe Island, west of the Maderas Volcano, 2.8 km from the town of Merida in the department of Granada (south).
In this first stage, the project is composed of 900 solar panels that will generate 300 kilowatts, energy that represents 20% of the total demand of the island, located in the great lake of Nicaragua.
According to the information disclosed, the second stage of the project will be executed next year and is intended to cover 50% of the area’s electricity demand.
In this way, the Sandinista Executive guarantees the supply of clean energy and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the care of the Maderas Volcano Biosphere Reserve.
Nicaragua, at the end of October, registered important advances in electricity coverage with 99,37% of electrification at the national level, which translates into benefits for thousands of families who enjoy this service.
