Almost a million Salvadorans registered to vote abroad

San Salvador, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Nearly one million Salvadorans with Unique Identity Documents (DUI) will be able to vote from abroad in the 2024 elections, reported today Fernando Velasco, president of the National Registry of Natural Persons (RNPN).

The Electoral Registry abroad closed with 906,462 DUIs, of which 739,925 have an address abroad and 166,537 have a national address, Velasco reported in a radio interview.

A majority of 739,925 compatriots will be able to vote remotely over the Internet as of January 6 because they have documents with an address abroad, while 166,537 can go to voting centers to show their vote in a manner in-person electronics.

The participation of Salvadorans abroad is one of the most controversial issues in the upcoming elections as some believe that its execution could lead to fraud and question the security provided by the company in charge of setting up the process.

They also question the fact that there is no verifiable electoral roll that can show the transparency of the process.
