More than 20 Countries attend MSMEs forum in Colombia

Bogota, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) The sixth Ibero-American Forum of MSMEs begins today in Medellin, at about 420 kilometers northwest of this capital, with the participation of representatives of the public and private sector from 22 countries, informed an authorized source.

A note released by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (Mincit) clarified that the event will be attended by more than 800 people to analyze the challenges and opportunities currently faced by micro, small and medium-sized companies in Ibero-America.

The event will bring together authorities responsible for policies related to the development of these businesses, the heads of business organizations, as well as researchers, academics and representatives of multilateral organizations, he added.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Germán Umaña, said about the celebration of the event that ‘the government of President Gustavo Petro is committed to contribute to the growth, development and competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprises and units of the popular economy’.

He added that the Forum is a good opportunity for national MSMEs to share experiences and knowledge with their peers in Latin America, with the help of international experts.

The official also remarked that ‘improving the performance of Colombian companies is fundamental in the process of generating wealth and new opportunities, especially for the reindustrialization process, which seeks to close productivity gaps, diversify supply, consolidate domestic trade and strengthen the productive fabric’.

The meeting will run until tomorrow, when crucial topics such as sustainability, gender, leadership and digital transformation are expected to be discussed, the source added. The program also includes field visits to representative companies in the department of Antioquia.
